Terms and Conditions

  1. The Pirtek Fishing Competition (“the Competition”) is an open fishing competition. Target species will be notified within the 12-hour period prior to the day of the tournament start.
  2. The Pirtek Fishing Competition is conducted by National Fishing Challenge Pty Ltd.
  3. The object of the Competition is Capture, Measure, Photograph and Release of fish.
  4. The Competition will take place on Sunday, 11 April, 2010.
  5. Registration fee will be AU$20.00.
  6. Registrations for the competition will open on 4 January, 2010 and close on 28 March, 2010. Victorian entries will open on 8 January, 2010.
  7. Late registrations will be accepted up until 4 April, 2010 6 April, 2010, but will attract an additional express postage and handling fee of $15.00.
  8. All competitors must hold a valid fishing license as per State regulations.
  9. Target species for each Australian State or Territory will be advised to competing anglers via e-mail and website www.pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au at 1800 hours EST on Saturday, 10 April, 2010.
  10. Competing anglers will commence fishing 0600 hours on Sunday, 11 April, 2010 and cease fishing at 1800 hours on Sunday, 11 April, 2010.
  11. No lines in water until 0600 hours on Sunday, 11 April, 2010 and all lines out of the water at 1800 hours on Sunday, 11 April, 2010.
  12. Digital photographs are to include the time and date where possible.
  13. Only photographs of fish on Pirtek fish brag mats with competing angler number displayed are eligible for the Competition.
  14. Photographs must be of a live fish. Once the photograph has been taken the fish must be released as quickly as possible, carefully back into the water. Any evidence of fish being killed after the photograph has been taken will see that fish ineligible for the competition.
  15. Any digital manipulation of photographs is prohibited and will result in instant disqualification of competing angler.
  16. It is the responsibility of the competing angler to ensure photographs are uploaded to the website correctly.
  17. Only one (1) photograph per competing angler can be uploaded to www.pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au.
  18. Only one (1) photograph will be accepted per competing angler.
  19. Any photographs sent to the Pirtek Fishing Challenge can be used for marketing or advertising purposes by Pirtek Fishing Challenge.
  20. Participants, competitors and observers:
    1. acknowledge that fishing and boating are activities which contain elements of risk and danger;
    2. acknowledge that the decision to participate in the Competition and the decision to go to sea is theirs alone;
    3. accept full responsibility for their own safety and the risks and consequences of participating in the event;
    4. hold National Fishing Challenge Pty Ltd, Pirtek Fluid Systems Pty Ltd, its associated companies and franchisees blameless;
    5. release and discharge National Fishing Challenge Pty Ltd, Pirtek Fluid Systems Pty Ltd, its associated companies and franchisees from any liability; and
    6. indemnify National Fishing Challenge Pty Ltd, Pirtek Fluid Systems Pty Ltd, its associated companies and franchisees for any claims, actions, suits and court proceedings brought against it or any of them arising from the conduct of the event.
  21. Junior anglers must be under 16 years of age at the start of the calendar year.
  22. Competing anglers may only enter fish caught by themselves.
  23. Photographs may be uploaded to www.pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au by participants from 0600 hours EST on Sunday, 11 April 2010 until 0700 hours EST, Monday, 12 April, 2010.
  24. In the event of an angler not registering their fish photograph prior to 0700 hours EST on Monday, 12 April, 2010 the angler will be disqualified from the Competition.
  25. All fish must comply with State Fisheries minimum lengths and bag limits. The Pirtek Fishing Challenge organizing committee strongly recommends for all anglers to avoid targeting spawning or pre-spawning aggregations of fish stocks.
  26. Anglers may fish a maximum of 2 lines in the water at any one time.
  27. Netting with a hand held landing net is the only assistance permissible to a competitor (junior or senior) in the capture of a fish.
  28. Where possible the use of knotless (i.e. Environet style) nets are to be used in the landing of fish.
  29. Boats must comply with Waterways safety requirements. Please ensure all boats and trailers are free of noxious weeds, plants and their seeds before entering the waterway.
  30. The organizers strongly recommend the use of Australian bait products only and discourage the use of imported baits such as frozen prawns
  31. Any noxious fish species caught, ie, carp or tilapia, should be disposed of according to Fisheries regulations.
  32. All competitors are strictly advised to remove all rubbish from campsites and waterways and place them in the correct disposal areas/bins.
  33. Where possible the organizers recommend the use of kayaks, canoes or electric motors to minimize the carbon footprint of the competition.
  34. The Competition is not open to commercial fishing vessels (recreation style charter vessels are permitted).
  35. All fish must be caught on rod, reel or hand line with only one hook or one lure attached to the line.
  36. Commercial fishing methods and techniques are not permitted.
  37. Fishing inside marine parks and reserves may be prohibited in your State. Please check with your local authority to confirm areas permitted for recreational fishing. Any fish taken from these areas will be ineligible for entry into the competition.
  38. No farmed or commercially grown fish are permitted in the competition.
  39. Hatchery fish and home aquarium fish are excluded from the competition.
  40. Fish stocked in private dams are excluded from the competition, only impoundments open to the public are permitted.
  41. The winners and runners-up for each Australian State and Territory will be posted on www.pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au Saturday, 17 April, 2010. They will also be contacted via mail.
  42. Prize money will be paid within 28 days from 17 April, 2010. The national prize pool is as follows:
    1. First prize: Seventeen (17) x $4000 cash
    2. Second prize: Seventeen (17) x prize pack up to the value of $750.00
    3. Third prize: Seventeen (17) x prize pack up to the value of $500.00
    4. Junior prize: Seventeen (17) x prize pack up to the value of $500.00
    5. State by State breakdown of the prize pool is as follows:
      1. NSW/ACT: Four (4) x 1st prize; four (4) x 2nd prize; four (4) x 3rd prize; four (4) x junior prize
      2. QLD: Three (3) x 1st prize; three (3) x 2nd prize; three (3) x 3rd prize; three (3) x junior prize
      3. VIC: Three (3) x 1st prize; three (3) x 2nd prize; three (3) x 3rd prize; three (3) x junior prize
      4. TAS: One (1) x 1st prize; one (1) x 2nd prize; one (1) x 3rd prize; one (1) x junior prize
      5. WA: Three (3) x 1st prize; three (3) x 2nd prize; three (3) x 3rd prize; three (3) x junior prize
      6. SA: Two (2) x 1st prize; two (2) x 2nd prize; two (2) x 3rd prize; two (2) junior prize
      7. NT: One (1) x 1st prize; one (1) x 2nd prize; one (1) x 3rd prize; one (1) x junior prize
  43. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  44. Nissan / LG Major Prize Draw:
    1. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these terms and conditions. Any entry not complying with these terms and conditions is invalid.
    2. Entry is open to residents of Australia.
    3. To enter, log on to www.pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au, locate the Pirtek Fishing Challenge registration form and follow the prompts to complete the registration application, including payment of the Pirtek Fishing Challenge $20.00 entry fee.
    4. All paid and registered competitors are eligible and automatically entered into the Major Prize Draw.
    5. The competition will open on 4 January, 2010 and close on 4 April, 2010 6 April, 2010. Victorian entries will open on 8 January, 2010.
    6. There are two (2) prizes only in the competition.
    7. Entrants may only enter the competition once.
    8. The first entry drawn will win a five (5) night ultimate winter getaway for two (2) people to Hotham Alpine Resort, Victoria courtesy of Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Pty Ltd. Retail value estimated up to $5,000.00. Included in the prize:
      1. Flights from any major Australian capital city (excluding Melbourne and Sydney) to Sydney for two (2) persons. Flights from Melbourne will be direct to Mt Hotham for two (2) persons.
      2. Return flights and transfers from Sydney or Melbourne to Hotham Alpine Resort for two (2) persons.
      3. Five (5) nights accommodation in a luxury apartment (twin share).
      4. Five (5) day lift pass for two (2) persons.
      5. Five (5) day ski and boot hire for two (2) persons.
      6. Prize must be taken during Peak Season 2010 (25 July to 28 August 2010), with the date to be confirmed between the winner and Hotham Alpine Resort subject to availability.
      7. Prize is not transferrable.
      8. Prize is not redeemable for cash.
    9. The second entry drawn will win an LG fifty (50) inch HD plasma television Model No. 50PS70FD with five year warranty and LG Wireless Home Theatre System Model No. HT904WA courtesy of LG Electronics Australia Pty Ltd. Retail value up to $4,500.00. Prize is not redeemable for cash.
    10. The draw will be conducted on 15 April, 2010 at 11.00 am EST via a barrel draw and witnessed by a Justice of the Peace at Pirtek Fluid Systems Pty Ltd, 3-5 Garling Road, Kings Park, NSW, 2148.
    11. The prize winners will be notified by telephone and in writing on 15 April, 2010.
    12. The names of prize winners along with their town and State location will be published in The Australian on 21 April, 2010 and also on the pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au website.
    13. The Promoter may conduct an unclaimed prize draw at the same place as the original draw on 15 July, 2010 at 11.00 am EST to distribute any prizes unclaimed by that date. The first valid entry drawn will win the unclaimed prize and the draw will continue until all unclaimed prizes have been distributed. Any winners of an unclaimed prize will have their name, town and State location published in The Australian on 21 July, 2010 and also on the pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au website.
    14. Prizes will only be delivered in Australia and each winner should allow 28 days from the prize draw for delivery of their prize.
    15. If a winner of the Nissan / LG Major Prize Draw is a minor (under the age of 18 years) the prize will be awarded to the legal guardian or parent of the minor.
    16. Entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt into the Promoter’s database. The Promoter is not responsible for receipt of incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete information caused by an entrant or occurring during transmission.
    17. Each entry becomes the property of the Promoter. All details will be held in accordance with Pirtek Fluid Systems Pty Ltd privacy policy which is available on request by contacting 02 8822 9000.
    18. The Promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

    20. Winners of the Nissan / LG Major Prize Draw:
      1. acknowledge that skiing and associated activities contain elements of risk and danger;
      2. acknowledge that the decision to participate in the prize draw and the decision to accept the prize is theirs alone;
      3. accept full responsibility for their own safety and the risks and consequences of skiing and associated activities;
      4. hold National Fishing Challenge Pty Ltd, Pirtek Fluid Systems Pty Ltd, its associated companies and franchisees, Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Pty Ltd, LG Electronics Australia Pty Ltd blameless;
      5. release and discharge National Fishing Challenge Pty Ltd, Pirtek Fluid Systems Pty Ltd, its associated companies and franchisees, Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Pty Ltd, LG Electronics Australia Pty Ltd from any liability; and
      6. indemnify National Fishing Challenge Pty Ltd, Pirtek Fluid Systems Pty Ltd, its associated companies and franchisees, Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Pty Ltd, LG Electronics Australia Pty Ltd for any claims, actions, suits and court proceedings brought against it or any of them arising from the conduct of the Nissan / LG Major Prize Draw.
  45. JVC Club Challenge:
    1. Club registrations are identified through the website angler registration form. Simply type in the full name of your Fishing Club in the space provided on the registration form.
    2. The Club which accumulates the greatest number of entries in each State or Northern Territory will win a JVC camcorder.
    3. There are eight (8) JVC camcorders – model no. GZMS120 – to be won. Retail value up to $449.00 per camcorder.
    4. Breakdown: One (1) camcorder for Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, Northern Territory; and two (2) camcorders for New South Wales/ACT.
    5. The two (2) camcorders for NSW/ACT will be for the two clubs registering the largest number of entries in NSW/ACT.
    6. The JVC Club Challenge opens on 4 January 2010 and concludes on 4 April 2010 6 April 2010. Victorian entries will open on 8 January, 2010.
    7. The winners of the JVC Club Challenge will be notified on 15 April 2010 and published on the pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au website.
    8. Prizes are not redeemable for cash.
    9. In the event of a tie, a draw will determine the winner. The draw will be conducted on 15 April, 2010 at 11.30 am EST via a barrel draw and witnessed by a Justice of the Peace at Pirtek Fluid Systems Pty Ltd, 3-5 Garling Road, Kings Park, NSW, 2148.
    10. Entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt into the Pirtek Fishing Challenge database. National Fishing Challenge Pty Ltd is not responsible for receipt of incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete information caused by an entrant or occurring during transmission.
    11. The Pirtek Fishing Challenge Committee decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  46. Total State prize pool for the Nissan / LG Major Prize Draw and JVC Club Challenge in VIC, QLD, SA, TAS, WA and NT is up to the value of $9949.00. The total State prize pool for NSW/ACT is up to the value of: $10,398.00.
  47. All issues overlooked in these Rules will be addressed by the Pirtek Fishing Challenge committee and their decision will be final.
