To be held on Sunday 15 April, the Pirtek National Fishing Competition is a unique one-day event where every person in Australia can take-on each other with all proceeds going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA).

Heading into its fourth year, Pirtek National Fishing Competition attracted 4000 entries in 2011 with $80,000 going to the fight against prostate cancer.

“The aim of the Fishing Challenge is to raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA),” Stephen Dutton, Group General Manager of Pirtek.

“We had a tremendous surge of support for last year’s Challenge and were delighted to hand over to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia a cheque for $80,000. In 2012 we’re aiming for 6000 competitors and $120,000 for the PCFA.”

The competition is set-up in a state and territory basis with the aim to catch a target species that is nominated only the night prior to the competition. Prize packs are on offer for the largest fish in that species group – plus 17 anglers will win $4000 in cash for the closest fish to a nominated length by event organisers. This ensures all fish caught on the day of the competition are the ones presented for the prizes.

Entry is just $20 and that money goes directly to Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Entrants receive a limited edition cap and brag (measuring) mat and 2012 sticker. To register for the event simply log on to www.pirtekfishingchallenge.com.au.

All competitors need to do is catch their State’s target species, photograph the fish on the Pirtek brag mat along with their registered angler number and send the photo to the website. The idea is to catch, measure, photograph and release the fish.

“There is over $130,000 in cash and prizes for this year’s Challenge and I urge fishos young and old to become involved,” said Dutton.

“Everyone at Pirtek wishes all competitors good luck and a great day out on Sunday, April 15.”

There are 17 national prizes with fishing both on coastal areas, plus the Murray Darling Basin in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. New for 2012 is the Ocean Kayak and BLA to the Fishing Challenge team. This year’s event will see BLA sponsor the Ocean Kayak non-boating category for anglers fishing from either a canoe, kayak or from the shore.

Joining Pirtek in supporting the event are associate sponsors Evinrude, Lowrance, Berkley, Roman Camping, BCF and Ocean Kayak names synonymous with the highest quality boating, fishing, outdoor and marine electronics equipment.

There are 17 target species nationally with fantastic prize packs for first, second and third if you catch the longest fish in your category. Junior anglers (under 16) won’t miss out either with prizes for first and second for each target species.

Every registered competitor will go into the On The Water prize draw to win one of five great prizes:
1. Evinrude E-tec 75hp outboard engine. RRP $13,138.
2. Ocean Kayak Prowler Ultra 4.3 with combo fish finder; vest and paddle. RRP $4,400.
3. Lowrance HDS-8m Gen2 Multifunction Chartplotter. RRP $2,299.00.
4. Berkley tackle pack. RRP $2000.
5. $1500 BCF spending spree gift voucher.

Also part of the event is the chance to be part of the competition alongside former NRL star and broadcaster Andrew (ET) Ettingshausen and fishing identity and Pirtek Brand Champion, Michael Guest. Plus have the opportunity to be featured on ‘Escape with ET’. Flights, transfers and accommodation are included in the prize.

The 2012 Pirtek Fishing Challenge is open for business and this year we’re aiming for 6000 competitors and $120,000 for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Close to 4,000 anglers competed in this year’s Pirtek Fishing Challenge with 100% of entry fees going directly to the PCFA.

On presenting the cheque, Stephen Dutton commented, “We are thrilled to be making such a significant contribution to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Everyone within our company has embraced the campaign contributing to its success, and we look forward to an even bigger competition in 2012.”

The $80,000 will assist the PCFA in its efforts to support world-leading prostate cancer research, raise awareness of prostate cancer in the community, and help men and their families affected by prostate cancer. The date for the 2012 Pirtek Fishing Challenge has been set for Sunday, April 15, 2012.

This year has been our biggest ever. 6500 anglers from all over Australia – mums, dads, kids and grandparents – chasing species from Golden Perch to Barramundi in a one-day fishing challenge unlike any other competition.
